Artist Statement

This study delves into the significance and utilization of 2D avatars among Virtual YouTubers (VTu-bers), specifically within the realm of game live streaming. The focus is on how these virtual entities contribute to positive outcomes by amplifying user engagement. Through a comparative analysis of distinct 2D avatar creation and facial capture software, this research encapsulates a user-friendly guide framework that offers a systematic approach to crafting highly expressive 2D avatars for game live streaming.

About the artists

Yuxuan Hu, an inventive animator and designer based in Melbourne, Australia, is currently mastering the realm of Animation, Games, and Interactivity as a second-year student at RMIT University. With a profound passion for creative experimental projects, Yuxuan’s journey seamlessly blends academic pursuits with hands-on industry experience.

Daien Lyu, an interactive developer dedicated in mixed reality (AR/VR) and UI/UX based in Mel-bourne, Australia. Gradu-ated from RMIT University [Bachelor of Design (Digital Media) & Master of Animation, Games and Interactivity], he has more than 4 years of professional experience in UI/UX design. With the strong foundation in graphic design and zeal for web development, he has branched his skillset in infographic design, generative art, motion graphics and frontend design and develop-ment.

Haowen Xue, is an animation student who graduated from RMIT and have obtained a bachelor’s de-gree in Animation Interaction Design and a master’s degree in Animation Game Media Interaction. Haow-en’s focus is on virtual character design and production, and his future development direction is to ex-plore more possibilities for virtual character interaction modes. In 2023, Haowen’s team ex-plored the application of virtual characters using Live2d in live streaming. During the process, Haow-en and his team members made many optimizations and summarized solutions for this mode. They look forward to their cooperation bringing some help and optimization to practitioners in this field.
