Artist Statement

The presentation is a discussion about process related to a series of unfinished works that combine conventional composition and music production techniques with AI tools, notably Synthesiser V vocal software. I will discuss the use of such tools in my creative practice, the questions it raises for me as an artist and the implications for educators in creative industries.

About the artists

As Dean of SAE University College I am continuing my passion to provide the highest quality education to emerging practitioners in the Creative Industries. In my own career as a composer and sound designer in music, theatre and film, I am keenly aware of the value of interdisciplinary skills and knowledge beyond the technical skills in our own fields of specialisation, and that the pace of change in our world requires an ongoing and humble attitude to learning.

I am active as a researcher with particular interest in learning and teaching, and the expression, transmission and perception of story through music and the arts. I continue to engage in research in this area, particularly in relation to neurodiverse individuals.

I have been working in higher education in teaching and leadership roles since 2004 and was inducted as a Principle Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in recognition of Academic Leadership on 2020. I am particularly involved in maintaining and extending academic standards in the arena of practiced based arts technologies, strong involvement in curriculum design and accreditation.
